If the current trends hold, one-fourth of Earth's species may die out in the next 25 to 50 years. This tragic loss of the planet's biological wealth constitutes a crisis of global proportions about which relatively little is being done. In 1989, the World Resources Institute released the first-ever accounting of U.S. effort to address this problem. Investing in Biological Diversity expands upon this previous work to document and analyze funding for 1,093 projects in 100 developing countries. Special features of the report included multiyear funding comparisons by region, country, type of conservation activity, funder, and implementor. Also examined is funding to areas identifies as priorities for biodiversity conservation.
