Traditionally, corporate environmental performance has been measured by compliance with existing environmental laws and regulations. But many firms have found that both environmental results and cost effectiveness require other measures ranging from gauging energy resource efficiency to tracking waste reduction. Measuring Up calls for a new framework to measure and communicate corporate environmental performance based on four standard categories of environmental performance on materials use, energy consumption, non-product output, and pollutant releases. This report demonstrates that comparable and transparent measures could increase overall corporate environmental performance.
